Natural beauty comes from within. Deeper layers of the skin have a crucial influence on skin appearance. The skin can only look youthful when these layers are well nourished. Belinal® is an innovative natural ingredient in the beauty from within market. Due to the low molecular mass, polyphenols in Belinal® are quickly absorbed, they pass through the cell membrane and act within the cell. These polyphenols have a wide spectrum of anti-ageing, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

Intracellular and extracellular oxidative stress initiated by reactive oxygen species advance skin aging, which is characterized by wrinkles and pigmentation. The use of antioxidants is an effective approach to prevent symptoms related to photo aging of the skin.
A double-blind placebo-controlled clinical study examines the effects of silver fir branch extract Belinal® after oral intake on skin parameters after 84 days. Silver fir branch extract Belinal® improved skin parameters in human subjects after oral intake. The improvement of individual measured parameters was not statistically significant compared to placebo, but it showed a positive trend. The most noticeable effect was an increase in skin elasticity, followed by a reduction in TEWL (skin barrier) and wrinkles, measured by wrinkle count and wrinkle area.
Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) – Improvement of Skin Barrier by 6%
A reduction in TEWL (g/h/m2) indicated an improvement of skin condition. Reduction in the silver fir branch extract Belinal® group was by 6.2 % . The difference was not statistically significant to placebo (p = 0.61). See diagram 1.

Improvement of Skin Elasticity by 18%
Skin elasticity increased by 18.6 % at day 84, which was higher than in placebo (14.6%), but the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.61). The maximum improvement in skin elasticity was 36.4%. See diagram 2.

Reduction of Wrinkles by 17%
Wrinkle count decreased by 17.4 %, but the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.36). Wrinkle area decreased by 11.0 %, but the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.46). See diagram 3.
The improvement of these physiological skin parameters may be related to an increase in collagen and elastin synthesis in the skin layers, as suggested by a previous topical clinical study with Belinal®. These results suggest that the oral supplementation with the polyphenolic silver fir branch extract Belinal® may improve skin structure and skin health from within.
